MRO Technologies Announces GoGreen Campaign - Renewable Repairs for the Air Transportation Industry

MROTechnologies is proud to announce its effort to build green concepts into its decision making processes for developing repairs. We are proud to show that we are not just talking about going green but actually providing concrete examples.

MROTechnologies will lead by example and to develop repairs that are renewable unlike those provided by the large OEMs. What does this really mean? Well, quite simply it means that we will develop repairs that look at the total life cycle cost of processing a part. In more practical terms we will look at what it takes the first repair, second repair, third repair and so on. The life cycle costs will include the amount of work, energy and resources that go into repairing a part.

Why? Because it is the right thing to do. The OEM’s preferred method of choice during overhauls is to replace components at great expense to their customer. If industry has adopted a specific repair practice or if their reliability is lacking they will add repairs to the component maintenance manuals. This is based on their flawed model of planned obsolescence.

Let’s look at the real cost of their new parts sale. First off more raw materials need to be mined, processed into usable form, tooling for castings must be manufactured using more raw materials, machining processes need to be performed to create the features and details necessary to make a rough casting, then the raw materials are heated (using a large amount of energy) into a melt, poured into a casting mold, cooled, heat treated, machined for hours or days, coated with anti-corrosion coatings. Remember, this all took place before the part was ever put into service.

Now when the part comes back for repair it is even more time consuming since the OEM repair uses tungsten carbide metal spray. Let’s run through that process. The housing is machined, drilled, welded, metal sprayed (using lots of energy), remachined, detailed. Sounds like a nice and short process. One minor pitfall, it doesnt work most of the time or the part doesn’t last in service. Now you cant simply add more coating so all the prior work needs to be removed and more material removed. Then you start the whole process over again. This is not very efficient and it wastes lots of time and energy in the process.

MROTechnologies develops repairs that make the customer’s parts last longer, minimize the use of valuable resources by making the repairs renewable, lower the total real life cylce cost of the repairs to the customer. It is really not difficult to do but the OEM’s seem to like doing things the old fashioned and inefficient way. Watch out OEM’s - we are going to clean up your act for you. In the meanwhile, let MROTechnologies help salvage your piece parts with renewable repairs - we have the proof.

Another concept pioneered by MROtechnologies is on parts where hard replacement limits are applied by the OEMs for parts for structural reasons. We call it Life Extension
